My Healthy Attitude About Clean Beauty...11 Years Later!

it was always for you baby girl.

We are closer and closer to a world where all beauty is clean beauty.

Eleven years ago, there was no such thing as clean beauty. The laws governing the personal care industry were antiquated to say the least. The industry lacked oversite. Major legislation had not been passed since 1938. Nobody even knew they needed clean beauty.

Nine years ago this month, I decided to become an advocate for clean beauty. I didn’t become an advocate because I wanted to sell anything, far less to my family and friends. I had no experience in this space but I took a chance because I knew that we needed to know what we were using was safe and actually worked. Nine years ago this was unheard of. Now you can find clean beauty in Sephora, Ulta, Target, even Walmart. Sure not all of it is actually clean but we are now armed with more information to make healthier decisions.

Our minds have shifted from concerns over our endocrine disruptors effecting our fertility to how they effect midlife health and our daughter’s safe skincare needs.

Together we have moved the market, we have demanded that companies do better, we have voted with our wallets and used our voices to effect real change and federal laws have changed. WE DID THIS. Last year the Modernization of Cosmetic Reform Act was passed.

However, our work is not done. We are asking Congress to:

• Ban the worst chemicals, like PFAS, parabens, and phthalates, which are banned in the European Union and states like California and Maryland.

• Close the fragrance loophole by requiring product labeling and website disclosures of secret, unlabeled, and sometimes harmful fragrance ingredients.

• Mandate supply chain transparency to require upstream suppliers of raw materials, ingredients, and private label products to provide safety data and full ingredient disclosure to brands.

• Protect overexposed communities by funding programs that support research, safer ingredient innovation, and the development of educational resources to protect the health of people of color and salon workers.

I am so grateful to everyone participating in this movement with me. So many of my friends became clients and my clients have became friends. I am especially grateful to my friends who locked arms with me and joined our “b. Together” team. Working together on something we are so passionate about over the last nine years has been an absolute joy.

From the very bottom of my heart, thank you for trusting me.

I am so grateful for my friends who became clients and my clients who have become friends.
